Wii U Exclusive, Rayman Legends To Release This Christmas

Ubisoft has announced that Rayman Legends will be a Wii U exclusive and is set to arrive this Christmas, according to the game's trailer shown at this week's Gamescom Conference.

Early screen shots of the game have only been shown on the yet-to-be-released Wii U, but the previous game in the series was released across multiple platforms and appeared on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Vita, PC, and the Wii.

The game's original trailer showcased Wii U exclusive features - which led some to believe that the title would appear on the PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Rayman Legends is now the second known Wii U exclusive from Ubisoft, joining Zombi U. Although IGN is reporting that the game may appear on other consoles in the future. Just Dance 4, another Ubisoft game will receive exclusive songs on the Wii U.

Rayman Legends will be very similar in game-play to Rayman Origins in which multiple players run, jump, punch, and kick their way through levels. Like most games in the platform genre there will be collectibles and an assortment of minor enemies to defeat.

According to the game's official site, the story revolves around Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies wandering through an enchanted forest when they discover a mysterious tent filled with a series of captivating paintings. While looking at the paintings they are suddenly sucked into the painting and the adventure begins.

Rayman will not be the only playable charter, as gamers can choose to play as the aforementioned Globox, and the Teensies or gamers can control a new ax-wielding character named Barbara. Four players can control the main characters and an additional player can control Murfy by using the Wii U's touch screen device.

IGN and GameTrailers named the game Best Platformer of E3 2012.
