Stephen Amell is best known as “Oliver Queen” or the “Arrow” from the TV-inspired superhero series on CW though he recently played “Casey Jones” on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows”.
Summarizing his participation in both, Amell has become synonymous with superhero acting but the “Arrow” star wouldn’t mind playing a villain if given the chance.
With the “Batman” solo film in the works, Amell hints that he would be open to portraying one of the caped crusader’s long time nemesis, “The Riddler”.
“I always get this question. I think all the superheroes are taken now. I’ll play The Riddler, okay? It’s a villain, but I like The Riddler,” Amell was quoted of saying on Cinema Pop.
Right now, seeing Amell play the iconic villain is unclear. The adversaries that “Batman” will face are still on the drawing board as Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns continue to work on the film. Rumors have it though that the film could include a lot of “Batman’s” former foes, “The Riddler” included.
Skimming over the recent “Batman” films, there has been no sight of the devious puzzle-loving villain. The last time “The Riddler” appeared was in “Batman Forever” (1995) which was played by Jim Carrey as pointed out on Screen Rant.
With the modern day iterations courtesy of Chris Noland, the “Dark Knight” went up against villains that included “Scarecrow," “Joker” and “Bane." Could Affleck and Johns consider the “Riddler” in the solo film? Will Amell fit the bill? Right now nothing is carved in stone.
Right now, there is no actual timetable on when the “Batman” solo movie will come out though it may come sooner per Cinema Blend. The next time fans may get to see the caped crusader would be on “Suicide Squad” and then “Justice League: Part One,” which happens on November 17, 2017.
Moving forward, anything can happen. But seeing Amell make the transition from hero to villain does carry some confusion as far as the DC Universe is concerned. Will that switch happen?
