Now that Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight has hung up the cowl, the underprivileged, innocent and vulnerable deserve a new hero to protect them.
Fox studios and comic book powerhouse Marvel recently were engaged in a heated discussion revolving around some of Marvel's licensed characters, including Daredevil and the Fantastic Four. There has been a proposed Daredevil reboot circulating the rumor mill for some time now, but the timing surrounding the project fell apart and the rights for the character have reverted back to Marvel from Fox.
The first Daredevil in 2003, was a commercial success but critical failure. The film failed to capture the gritty and realistic nature of the comic book. Daredevil like DC comics' Batman, is human being filled with character flaws that can translate well on the big screen, especially with the right director sitting in the chair.
Batman and Daredevil share comic book writer Frank Miller, who revitalized the two comic book heroes with the story lines of "Batman: the Dark Knight Returns," and "Daredevil: Born Again."
The "Born Again" story details Daredevil's descent into insanity and destitution at the hands of the criminal known as the Kingpin. But the story also looks at Daredevil's alter ego Matt Murdock and his struggle to build a new life. This story line could be a cinematic match for Nolan's Batman trilogy. Most of Daredevil's background is based in reality, except for his chemically-heightened sense of hearing. The criminals featured on the pages of Daredevil comics can easily be recreated in film and can be believable nuisance driven characters.
"The Grey" director, Joe Carnahan was hoping to re-imagine Daredevil for Fox. He created two mock trailers comprised of footage from other movies and comic book art. The two trailers were created to showcase his vision of Daredevil for the studio and they are amazing.
