Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, an upcoming video game under development by Platinum Games as part of the Metal Gear series, will be released for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 consoles on Feb. 19 in America, Feb. 21 in Europe and Feb. 22 in the UK, according to the games trailer.
The story is set several years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and will focus on Raiden, who is to be confronted by cyborg enemies.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be moving away from some of the stealth elements, a gameplay staple of the original game series. Although the game focuses more on action, there are still some scenarios where stealth comes into play.
The game's creative producer, Shigenobu Matsuyama has previously describes the game's stealth sequences as "hunting stealth," rather the previous games use of "waiting stealth."
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is more of a hack and slash style game but with a much more sophisticated melee system then your common hack and slash. The fighting system will focus on sword fighting and a sophisticated cutting system, allowing players to engage in third person melee combat, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects. The game contains realistic depictions of human dismemberment during player-controlled sequences.
The announcement of the release date was made on the first day of Gamescom, and was also tweeted by series creator Hideo Kojima. The game's trailer looks awesome and feels like a fresh take on the series.
