A cross-media project by Toei Animation, Bandai and Bandai Namco called “Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters” is currently in the works. The game developers recently presented more details about their work at the Tokyo Toy Show in June 2016.
A couple of trailers (see below) featured the “Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters” animation, which is set to launch on TV Tokyo in October 2016 in Japan. There will also be several other features, games and items to look forward to.
According to Anime News Network, the Appmon are AI beings that exist in the boundary between the human world and digital space, allowing both people and the system to interact and function. However, the last boss AI Leviathan uses a virus to hack and control of the Appmon, beginning to take advantage of the human world from the digital world.
HaruShinkai (voiced by Yumi Uchiyama) is the main protagonist in the story, who subsequently acquired and used the Appli Drive (Wataru Takagi) to materialize the search app monster Gacchimon (Kokoro Kikuchi). Players will learn more about the secret contents of the Appli Drive, Leviathan’s plans, the App Combine and Appmons in “Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters.”
Gematsu noted that “Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters” will include Appmon Chips which will showcase individual Applimon Launching early in October. It will also have the Appli Drive, which is an Appmon Chips-compatible toy with various modes and sound effects. The project will feature a 3DS eShop game, temporarily titled “Appli Monsters: Cyber Arena,” and a 3DS retail game with a great adventure. “Cyber Arena” will be compatible with QR codes on the Appmon Chips, allowing players to scan their Appmon and use these in battle.
“Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters” will also feature web integration, which lets players scan Appmon Chips with their smartphone to finish missions. There will be an Appmon 7code Pad, an Appmon band, an Appmon pairing cover set which includes two Appmon Chips and an Appmon Drive cover, and Appliarise action figures.
The 3DS eShop game will arrive first in fall 2016 while the “Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters” 3DS retail game will follow. The Appmon band costs 1,500 yen and will launch early in October. The cover set costs 800 yen and will arrive late in October.The Appmon 7code Pad costs 3,200 yen and will release in November. The action figures will cost 1,200 each.
