Bungie, the developer of “Destiny,” recently applied to trademark the title “Rise of Iron,” suggesting that it will be the game’s expansion to release in fall 2016. Previously, rumors that a “Destiny: Rise of Iron” expansion circulated, although there was not enough evidence to prove that it was indeed coming. The new Bungie title trademark somehow strengthens the claim that the new DLC is already in the works.
On May 31, 2016, Bungie was aiming to acquire the trademark to the title, “Destiny: Rise of Iron” for the purpose of interactive and video game software. The company reserved the use of the name across various media platforms, similar to other previous trademarks that were related to the franchise.
However, the new trademark was indicated to be used for both interactive and video game software, and not as downloadable video games, which were the trademark labels for the three previous DLCs. It may suggest that “Rise of Iron” is another live event, and not a game expansion. On the other hand, it can also be the sole expansion that Bungie has been planning for the year.
GameRant noted that there is also one rumor that “Destiny: Rise of Iron” will include a Fallen-themed raid.
Bungie has remained silent about the potential upcoming DLC, despite the leaked image and trademark. The company is planning to have a reveal on its Twitch channel on June 9, 2016. Although Bungie did not confirm whether they will be sharing more about the highly anticipated “Destiny: Rise of Iron,” the developer stated that they will treat fans to a type of trailer or video documentary that will showcase the next adventure. The development team will have a discussion afterwards.
GamingBolt wrote that “Destiny: Rise of Iron” appears to be a promising name for the next expansion. The first three DLC titles were “The Dark Below,” “House of Wolves” and “The Taken King.” These names have been chosen because of their several meanings in the “Destiny” saga. The content of the upcoming expansion is most likely unknown, but players expect that it will increase the level cap, include new strikes and Crucible maps, provide a new Raid, more campaign content and new weapons and items.
The International Business Times wrote that the leaked “Destiny: Rise of Iron” poster seemed to feature Lord Saladin, the character responsible for the game’s Iron Banner multiplayer events.
If details about “Destiny: Rise of Iron” would be revealed at E3 2016, these will most likely be presented at the Sony press conference. More teasers and confirmation on “Destiny: Rise of Iron” are expected soon.
