15-year-old Ohio Boy Collapses After Playing Modern Warfare 3 for Four Days

A 15-year-old Ohio boy collapsed after playing Modern Warfare 3 for four straight days.

Tyler Rigsby only came out of his bedroom to use the bathroom, grab some quick snacks and a shower. For nearly four days Rigsby was locked in his room playing Xbox's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

When he emerged from his room on Tuesday morning and headed to his aunt's house with his mother and the boy collapsed three times.

"It's like he was looking at me but he wasn't there," Rigsby's aunt, Jennifer Thompson told reporters. "It was like he was looking through me. We were talking and I heard a thump and I looked over and he just fell."

According to Rigsby's mom, the boy turned pale and his lips became blue.

"I was very scared," she said. "I thought he was going to die. He just fell over three times."

Medics were immediately called in and Rigsby was taken to the hospital. He was dangerously dehydrated. Dehydration can be deadly dangerous said Dr. Mike Patrick, emergency physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

"When you're dehydrated, the amount of fluid in your entire body is decreased and that includes the fluid that's in your blood vessels. So you have decreased blood volume," he said. "That leads to decreased blood pressure. When your blood pressure gets to a certain point, you're unable to get enough blood up to the brain. If you're not getting enough oxygen to the brain, that can cause you to pass out and it could cause you to die.

"You, eventually, run out of those chemicals. Your body needs sleep to replenish that activating system to keep you awake."

When we play games for days, we do not let our body rejuvenate, it eventually shuts down and we pass out. Dr. Patrick suggests we "get plenty of food and fluids, take breaks for physical activity, and put the controller down now and then to get some decent sleep."

Thought he is expected to be OK, Tyler's mom has taken away the Xbox.

"The Xbox is gone. Yeah no, this was a close call," she said.
