Could A FPS Version of Gears Of War Be On The Way?

Epic Games, the makers of the Unreal Engine and Gears of War series, have consider the possibility of developing a Gears of War first-person shooter. In an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine, Epic Games executive producer Rod Fergusson discussed plans for future installments of the series and how popular trends and fan feedback will decide the future direction of the series.

"I'm a big believer in never say never," Fergusson said in the interview, on the possibility of a Gears of War first-person shooter. "It's all about what's interesting in the industry at the time and where fans want us to take it. We don't want to say never but it's not on the top of my mind either. We look at what makes sense and move in that direction."

The original games in the Gears of War Trilogy are third-person shooters and so is the upcoming Gears of War: Judgment, a game that takes place before the original game, during the immediate aftermath of Emergence Day. Gears of War 3's hammer-burst weapon utilized a first-person view while allowing players to aim at targets.

The Gears of War series focuses on the troops of Delta Squad as they fight to save the remaining human forces of the fictional planet Sera from the subterranean Locust Horde. The player assumes the role of main protagonist Marcus Fenix, a former prisoner and soldier. The gameplay is a mix of cover and fire, with occasional vehicular combat sequences. The game also features several online multiplayer game modes.

Gears of War: Judgment will be released on March 19, for the Xbox 360.
