Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today unveiled new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gameplay footage. The new footage shows the first few minutes of the official demo which debuted at this year's E3, giving fans a more detailed look at Revengeance's in depth combat system.
Basic, but you get the idea. It's far from Raiden breakdance swinging Metal Gear Gekkos, but there's potential.
The development teams at Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames have come together to the METAL GEAR franchise into exciting new territory by focusing on delivering an all-new action experience unlike anything that has come before. It may have Metal Gear in the title, but this is obviously FAR from stealthy action seen in past Metal Gears. Longtime Metal Gear developer Hideo Kojima stated that he became involved with Rising because "it's a completely different kind of action than what has appeared in the series so far" and also stated that he would be more involved in the development of the game than a normal video game producer would be.
Since we last saw him in Guns of the Patriots, Raiden has become even more man than machine, almost unrecognizable since his debut in Sons of Liberty. The storyline seems fairly straight forward (expect that to change). According to a press release:
"In the near future, cyborg technology has become commonplace throughout society. Three years have passed since the collapse of the Patriots system that had been secretly controlling the global power balance from the shadows. However, peace remains elusive. The dissemination of cybernetic technology has triggered instability and conflict as those who control the trade gain increasing power. Furthermore, large 'Private Military Companies', or PMCs, that had been supported and controlled by the Patriots have collapsed, spawning countless rogue entities with origins to larger criminal organizations. These renegade PMCs employing cyborg technology have become increasingly more disruptive shifting policy and power at will. As a member of the peace-keeping PMC 'Maverick Security', Raiden lives by the mantra of protecting and saving lives. But as the world plunges further into asymmetric warfare, the only path that leads him forward is rooted in resolving his past, and carving through anything that stands in his way."
Other characters from the Metal Gear series, Olga Gurlukovich, her daughter Sunny, and Solidus are rumored to appear, likely in flashbacks.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is scheduled to be released early 2013 for the PS3, and Xbox 360.
