Google Nexus 7 Halts New Orders, Hotter Than Kindle Fire

Popularity for Google's Nexus 7 tablet has been soaring.  Demand has been so high that Google placed a halt on new orders for its 16 GB model due to short supply.  After being introduced to Google fans at the I/O conference in San Francisco last month, the Nexus 7 has surprised Google with the attention it's attracted.

Google enters a fierce tablet market that is currently dominated by Apple's iPad and highly popular Amazon Kindle Fire.   Rather than compete with the larger sized iPad, Google went with a 7-inch tablet sold at a competitive price.  The strategic approach looks to dig into the Amazon Kindle Fire's market share as the Nexus 7 has already shown high potential. Google's new product is smooth and attractive when compared with the Kindle Fire.   With its 7.8 inches tall and 4.7 inches wide body, the tablet can easily fit into pockets. The 7-inch screen can output resolutions of 1280 x 800 pixels paired with Wi-Fi connectivity and have a textured back for extra grip.

It has been noted that Nexus performs better in terms of its battery life, lasting over 9 hours with its 4326 mAh, 16 Wh battery, compared to Kindle Fire's 4400 mAh, 16.28 Wh battery lasting over 7 hours. The iPad logs in nearly 10 hours with its HSPA and 9:37 hours for LTE.

Nexus 7 uses a powerful quad-core processor from Nvidia with better memory space this time around. It weighs 12 ounces, thinner and meaner by 18 percent. The new tablet uses Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Though there is no camera in Kindle Fire while the Nexus 7 comes with all standard features of a tablet. It includes a front camera and microphone for video calling and Bluetooth connectivity with GPS.

A new Google app allows users to save maps for use even if you go offline. Kindle is yet to come out with such features though rumors say those features might be expected in the Kindle Fire 2. Kindle is integrated with Amazon's shops, which exceeds the shopping experience through Google's platform. There is a free app by Amazon that lets users buy and read Kindle e-books on the Nexus 7 and requires just one password for Netfilx and Spotify users.

The Nexus 7 was available for pre-order at Google's online store, Google Play. The 8GB version cost $199 while the 16GB costs $249. Google announced that the 16GB model would take 1-2 weeks for delivery. Due to high demand, the tablets are now no longer available to order through the website.  Google will just request emails and notify customers when the next batch of devices will be available.
