Many question are still left unanswered as the police continue their investigation. So far, 12 have been confirmed killed and approximately 70 others have been wounded, many of whom are in critical condition, after one of the worst mass shootings in US history.
As the nation mourns and the community of Aurora, Colorado tries to understand the seeming lack of logic that motivated one man to commit such a horrendous act, celebrities, have taken to twitter, facebook, and other means to show their support for those whose lives and families were most grievously affected by the events that took place late Friday morning.
Christopher Nolan: "Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community.â¨I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime.â¨The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.â¨Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."
Jim Lee: "Just shocked & saddened today-my thoughts & prayers go out to the victims' families & friends & everyone affected by this terrible tragedy."â¨â¨Stan Lee: "Thoughts and well wishes going out to the families and friends of those associated with today's tragedy in Colorado."
Kevin Smith: "My heart goes out to all the families of the victims in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting. Fucking horrific."
Chris Evans: "What the hell is happening?? My heart is completely shattered. All of my thoughts and prayers are with the people of aurora."
Samuel L. Jackson: "I hope none of you were in that Colo. theater last nite! Heartfelt sympathy for all victims & families."
Neil Gaiman: "Just landed in London to learn about Denver cinema shooting last night. Horrible. Heart goes out to victims."
William Shatner: "My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the horrific shooting in Colorado. My best, Bill."
Eli Roth: "Thinking of everyone in Aurora. Too upsetting for words."
Whoopi Goldberg: "A mad man has shattered lives forever in Colorado. To everyone who helped folks get to safety in that theatre THANK YOU for your bravery." Edgar Wright: "My thoughts go out to everyone in Colorado right now."
Joe Quesada: Simply horrific news. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those in Colorado but at the end of the day there are no words.
George Takei: "Many victims of tonight's tragedy were fans of Science Fiction/Fantasy. They stood in line to be the first to see, to be inspired, and to escape. As a community of dreamers, we mourn this terrible tragedy and this senseless taking of innocent life."
President Brack Obama: "Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado. Federal and local law enforcement are still responding, and my administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time.â¨As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family.â¨Such violence, such evil is senseless. It's beyond reason. But while we will never know fully what causes somebody to take the life of another, we do know what makes life worth living. The people we lost in Aurora loved were loved. They were mothers and fathers; they were husbands and wives; sisters and brothers; sons and daughters, friends and neighbors. They had hopes for the future and they had dreams that were not yet fulfilled."
Warner Bros: "Warner Bros. and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time."
Warner Brothers has cancelled their "The Dark Knight Rises" premier in Paris and many are unsure if they will do the same to their premiers scheduled in Tokyo and Mexico City.
