Podo, The Camera That Sticks To Any Surface For That Ultimate Selfie Shot: Will It Kill The Selfie Stick?

Podo, The Camera That Sticks To Any Surface For That Ultimate Selfie Shot: Will It Kill The Selfie Stick?

Podo, a recently introduced portable camera, is touted by its makers to replace these ubiquitous selfie sticks. Why? Because it allows users to do things they just can't do with a good old selfie stick.

The prevalence of this modern day pastime known as selfies has spawn some rather awkward devices to help borderline narcissists with their obsession. On of these is the selfie stick, you can shoot pics anywhere you want with it but they cannot really give one the ultimate posing freedom - the hand holding the stick will always be out of frame.

Three friends from the University of California, Berkley sought to overcome the selfie stick's limitations and came up with Podo. It is essentially a camera that can stick anywhere and can be linked to a smartphone via an app, which may be configured to shoot pictures or videos

Hands-Free Selfies

The biggest advantage of the Podo over the selfie stick is that one can take selfies hands-free. This solves that problem of one hand almost going out of focus because it is needed to hold the stick.

The hands-free option is made possible due to Podo's suction pads which allow to be attached to any flat surface, even ceilings, reports Business Insider. The camera is small at 2 x 2 x 1 inches and lightweight at 51 grams means it can stick to even small surfaces such as poles. Its diminutive size also makes it highly portable.

Allows Greater Control For A Better Selfie

In photography, some angles are better than others. One of the problems of taking a selfie using a selfie stick is that with an outstretched arm one can never be sure of how the picture is going to look like.

On the other hand, Podo will let one preview the actual photo because the camera is linked to one's smartphone via an app, notes Daily Mail. The user can view on his smartphone what Podo is actually seeing, allowing for necessary adjustments to stage the perfect selfie.

Greater Range

Polo allows one to take pictures with a camera distance much greater than what is possible with a selfie stick. It is even conceivable that with the right phone, one may take pictures even if one is 300 ft or 100 meters away from the camera.
