With the movie license already under its belt, Paramount Pictures has gone ahead with filing for additional trademarks for other associated products, namely, two trademarks relating to videogames. One for "entertainment services, namely, providing online electronic games," and another relating to downloadable, handheld and cartridge/disc games.
That should help provide a little context for the upcoming movie. Originally, "World War Z" is a collection of fictionalized interviews from people who experienced the Zombie War first hand. Going around collecting interviews wouldn't make for a good movie or videogame, so expect a lot of "historical" re-creations.
World War Z was Max Brook's fictional follow up to his "Zombie Survival Guide." Both were featured on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Brooks did a considerable amount of research in writing the book, saying, "Everything in World War Z (as in The Zombie Survival Guide) is based in reality... well, except the zombies. But seriously, everything else in the book is either taken from reality or 100% real. The technology, politics, economics, culture, military tactics... it was a LOT of homework." Major events that take place over the course of the war mentioned in the book include (SPOILERS): the destruction of Pakistan and India in a nuclear war, Tibet winning becoming sovereign from China, Russia becoming a religious theocracy, collapse of China's Three Gorges dam, and Cuba playing host to the world's most thriving economy. I suppose when people rise from the dead, things have a way of getting a little crazy. Go figure...
A movie based on the book is now in production by Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B Entertainment. It ran into some development problems, and its release was recently pushed back into June, 2013. You can expect the related videogames at about the same time.
