The Evil Dead director sets his sites on Oz over Azeroth according to Crave Online. Catching up with Sam Raimi at San Diego Comic-Con, where he revealed his new trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful, the director was asked about his long-gestating film adapation of Blizzard's World of Warcraft.
Once he started production on Oz, Blizzard simply went with another director. Who that is could be anyone's guess, as Blizzard nor any other outlet even knew about the switch. But as far back as 2010, Raimi seemed game for the game, going so far as to grind up to level 72 on his character. Even revealing this info, as Crave relates, was almost a throw-away while Raimi left a press conference to talk about his prequel story to The Wizard of Oz.
But maybe it wasn't such a bad move for the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy , since video game films don't have a good history of actually performing well. And how do you make a WoW film? Focus on an expansion pack? Just hit record for 20-30 hours and hope for an interesting loot grab? We're a little more interested in seeing this Oz film than an orc killing wolves to get a higher level.
