The Darkstalkers fancub is an exclusive model that soldiers on, despite not having a new title in seven years. The various monsters and sucubbi made famous for playing up the cheesecake factor in Capcom barely show up as side characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and yet they remain as popular as Mega Man--which is equally shunned by the company.
Though a brief glimmer of hope came from this year's Capcom panel at Comic-Con when Producer Yoshinori Ono claimed Darkstalkers weren't completely dead according to Anime News Network. Then again, this time last year he also showed up at Comic-Con to show off an image that "Darkstalkers Is Not Dead." Capcom renewed their trademark for the game in their European market, where its known as Vampire.
Of course, Capcom is known for killing their darlings even when they're nearly ready for distribution. There's nothing else currently on the table for the monster-on-monster fighting series, which seems to be the trend when you're a franchise that popped up in arcades during the mid-1990s.
