Google's Android keyboard app is getting a huge update and it includes a one-handed mode, design tweaks, resizable keyboard and more. There is also an optional key border for users who would want to customize their screens and new gestures which can be more helpful for people on-the-go.
Although there is a lot of useful and fun updates on the app, but the biggest feature is the one-handed mode which users can access through the preference menu or they can easily activate it by long-pressing the comma key. Once it's enabled, users can then move the keyboard to left or right, depending on which hand they would want to use this feature or they can just toggle it back to full screen.
Since most of the keyboard takes up so much space of the screen that you can hardly read your messages, the app now gives the users an option to adjust its height. This feature can help users who type and receives long messages as they can freely type and read them without scrolling down constantly. Users with large hands can also benefit from this feature as they can increase the height of the keyboard to make it easier for them to type with much lesser errors.
Most reports focused on the more exciting and bigger update, but the app also has some minor tweaks, like controlling the cursor and deleting entire words as enumerated by The Next Web. Just like the major update, these features are also fun and useful.
These new Android features came after The Verge reported that Google will be making a keyboard for iPhone but the release has not yet been confirmed. As for the Android users, the new app is now rolling out and they can download the .apk from Android Police.
