Teasers for teaser trailer releases are one thing, but what about a short film on a Blu-Ray of a gigantic Summer blockbuster? Item 47, the latest short from Marvel Studios, premiered at Comic-Con over the weekened complete with a special edition panel to discuss the short. In fact, compared to the previous shorts which starred Clark Gregg, Item 47 could be its own seperate series in a way.
The short premise follows the climatic battle at the end of The Avengers when the Chitauri are soundly defeated. There are apparently 47 items left behind (which seems kind of small considering the number of aliens there were) and one of them happens in the hands of a down-on-their-luck couple (Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford) that decide to use the weapon to rob banks. S.H.I.E.L.D. gets called in to clean up the mess, recover the Item and make an entertaining Marvel short. So how is it? io9 found it "[o]verall, the whole thing is short and sweet - and leaves the door wide open for future shenanigans with Caplan and Bradford." Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly kept hunting down info at the con and later hosted a panel about it.
After the presentation, they revealed that for a short, Item 47 had an entire set built for it, "10 to 11 explosions" and could possibly mean the shorts section of Marvel films could be getting to be more grandiose according to The Wall Street Journal. Item 47 comes out with the Avengers Blu-Ray on September 25th.
