Former Nintendo President Satoru Iwata drove fans into a frenzy when he announced back in March 2015 that there will be a Nintendo NX coming soon. Up to now, very little is known about the mysterious console but the company has finally revealed its release date along with their annual financial report.
According to Kotaku, the NX platform will be released worldwide in March 2017, exactly two years after its existence was mentioned by Iwata. Although an update was made about the console by revealing its much-awaited debut, it has still remained a mystery as nothing else has been revealed about the system.
“At this current stage, I’m not able to say,” Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said when asked about the console. “However, it’s not merely the successor to the handheld 3DS or stationary console Wii U. This will be hardware that’s been made with a new way of thinking. I’d like to announce more particulars regarding its specs and how it works another time this year.”
In an interview with Time last year, Kimishima assured the fans that NX is a brand new style of a console and that it is nothing like Wii or Wii U. So what will the NX actually look like? The Wall Street Journal's post back in October indicated that it will probably be a mix of console and portable device. Nintendo has not confirmed nor denied this suggestion.
The new announcement didn't just reveal the release date of the highly anticipated console but it also came along with a financial report which revealed that Nintendo's latest earnings are less than impressive. As a result of the unsatisfactory report, the company is looking forward to better options, stating that they need to enhance their old product lines.
