Thundercats, not the original but the 2011 reboot currently on Cartoon Network, is coming to the Nintendo DS in case you forgot that existed. The side-scrolling adventure game puts you in control of Lion-O, the heir to the kingdom of Thundera. Along with his fellow Thunderians, they search for the Book of Omens and three stones of power in order to defeat Mumm-Ra and Grune the Destroyer. Compare this to the original show's premise, which had the Thunderians flee their home planet for "Third Earth" and deal with Mumm-Ra and the creation of a new Thundera.
But let's focus on the present. The game, set for release on the ol' fashioned Nintendo DS this fall, allows you to wield the Sword of Omens, which includes an inevitable battle-cry of "Thundercats Ho!" You'll be able to call upon support characters like Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, WilyKat and WilyKit for battles and other roles.
There's also the option to secure Memorial Cards to help you through challenges and increasing difficulty throughout the levels. The game is set for a September 28th release in the UK, with an accompanying-but-unconfirmed U.S. release set for Fall 2012. Happy hunting, cubs. And remember, try not to shout out too often or else it'll seem a lot weirder when your stylus doesn't extend and shoot lasers.
