The introduction video can be viewed below, demonstrating the power of the gods and providing commentary from the developers at HiRez. The game has made a name for itself on PC, with its championship tournament last year bringing in a huge prize pool, and now HiRez is blazing a path on consoles.

The beta is closed, so you'll need to have won or been granted a key to join. You can register here for a chance at a key--those who were in the alpha will automatically have access. Purchasing the Founder's Pack will also grant you instant beta access.

MOBAs have been generally restricted to PC, given that the overhead, click-heavy nature of the genre doesn't translate well to consoles. Smite, however, is played from an over-the-shoulder third person perspective, making it feel a bit more like an action game despite having the mechanics of a MOBA. I've been playing the beta (impressions to come) and can say that the game certainly translates well to consoles, and fans of the genre shouldn't be too skeptical of the transition.

Smite draws on Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology for its settings and characters. The Champions of other MOBAs are Gods in Smite, meaning familiar characters such as Thor, Zeus, Medusa, Isis, Ra and many others fill out the playable roster. There are currently a whopping 65 Gods to play as in Smite, with many unlockable and rotating in and out of the available lineup.
