'Destiny' 'The Taken King' Trademark Filed With Logo, Could Be The Rumored September 'Comet' Expansion

Bungie Files Trademark For Game Software Named 'The Taken King', Could Be 'Destiny's September 'Comet' Expansion

While all the eyes of all Destiny fans are focused on the quickly approaching House of Wolves expansion, there's even more on the horizon.

An astute NeoGAF user noticed Bungie submitted a trademark for something called The Taken King roughly ten days ago, complete with a logo. The name is filed under downloadable video game and electronic software categories, and the attorney responsible is the same who submitted the Dark Below and House of Wolves trademarks.

So given that this almost certainly seems to be more Destiny content, what exactly is it? The logo resembles that of the Hive, but we don't have much to go on. Though entirely speculation at this point, the most likely answer is the first part of the Comet expansion planned for release some time in the future. This has not been detailed or revealed by Bungie, but was leaked from a slide during a presentation on Destiny's long term plan a while back.

That said, this could be something else entirely. I can't help but notice a particular focus on handheld and mobile categories for the The Taken King trademark--it's filed under "Electronic game software for cellular telephones" and "Electronic game software for handheld electronic devices" in addition to the rest. That may be required due to the Destiny app's integration with the full game, but could potentially be more of a hint at where The Taken King is headed. Stay tuned for any news on life after House of Wolves--it might be a while until we hear something.
