Bethesda's latest DLC "Dawnguard" offers new features that will look to pull fans back into the Skyrim world.
Some of the new content offered on Dawnguard includes the famous Dragon Shouts, Dragonbone weapons, mission quests, vampire, and werewolf perk trees. Fans who have already run through the nearly 20 hours of gameplay expressed feelings of mediocrity and low dosage of originality. Though Skyrim continues to roll on its successful formula of powering up, destroying enemies, and dialoguing with numerous NPC, the quests seemed repetitive.
The buzz with Dawngaurd's latest offering gives players an opportunity to play as a blood drinking vampire lord. If that isn't enough to attract gamers, the DLC also offers new crossbow weapons, armor, customizable dragon armor, and dragon bone weapons.
Skyrim's new features originated from an experimental event called "game jam" which allowed Bethesda developers to concoct any Skyrim feature they wanted. The result was an exciting list of content that made its way into Dawngaurd, but may also be getting a green light in Skyrim's future downloadable content.
Fans caught a glimpse of these new features in action at the 2012 D.I.C.E Summit, giving hope that Bethesda can be applying them to the Skyrim universe. Spears, Werebear, Ice and Fire Arrows, Giant Mudcrab, and the popular Dragon Mounts may be making its way into a rumored DLC in the works. Publisher of Skyrim, ZeniMax Media, was reported to have filed a new trademark entitled "Heart Fire." ." The new trademark was done similarly to the term "Dawnguard" sparking rumors that it may be the name of Skyrim's next DLC. Though no official reports have confirmed the possibility of a DLC, the move could give Bethesda an opportunity to breathe new originality into the Skyrim franchise.
Players who choose not to become a blood thirsty vampire but rather to hunt some can side with the vampire hunting party called the Dawnguard. Joining either side has its pros and cons.
Siding with Dawngaurd allows access to the new crossbow, which adds some new gameplay experience for players with high archery skills. To get a top prized crossbow, players will need to recruit Sorine Jurard into Fort Dawnguard and activate the Ancient Technology quest. After recovering additional crossbow items, the game will grant access to the powerful Enhanced Dwarven crossbow.
Vampires will have access to a Vampire Lord's castle where players are embraced by the Volkihar vampire community and blood is plentiful. Vampires can summon corpses, gargoyles, and transform into a beast to decimate foes.
Players will also have access to the new Dragon Shouts which can perform actions such as absorbing stamina and magic from foes. It can also summon Durnehviir, the undead dragon, to dispose of enemies during times of battle.
Those who seek to experience Skyrim's Dawngaurd DLC can download it for the Xbox 360. The Dawngaurd DLC plans to make its way to the PC and PlayStation 3 eventually.
