The Problem with Console Games on the iPhone

If you can fondly recall Earthworm Jim, The Simspons Game and X-Men arcade game, you may want to hop onto the App Store. Mashable poses their own list of 15 games including those three. The classics, however, do come at a cost with your touch screen. Playing Duke Nukem on the iPhone is a tough mix of thumbs and figuring out how to fire when you're longing for a hand-held controller.

Even playing The Simpsons Arcade Game is more of a novelty since it's still avaliable on XBLA and Playstation Network in HD. Finding old Sega Genesis and Nintendo games on the iPhone is fun kitsch, but they're almost mind-numbing to play and deal with controller layouts like in the Street Fighter 2 port. If you're adament about iOS gaming, don't waste your time with Wolfenstein. Go with Monsters Ate My Condo from Pik Pok which is a candy-coated color matching game combined with stacking and performing combos with giant monsters and dogs in robots.

Console games are fun to go on the road, but get harder to play when there's only so much screen. Even Minecraft PE for iOS is a lot of fun, but the controls are disorienting if you're used to the PC or even Xbox ports simply because of controller mechanics. So that list is right on with the best "classic" games on the iPhone, but it doesn't mean that they're the most fun when it comes to gaming-on-the-go with your phone.
