'Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft' 4th Adventure Wing 'Blackwing Lair' Now Open: Go Deeper Into Blackrock Mountain Today

Journey Forth Into Blackwing Lair, The Fourth Wing In The Blackrock Mountain: A Hearthstone Adventure Expansion, Now Live

BWL. Those letters still give me nightmares, of many a night lost with 39 other souls, of dragon eggs and dragon fights. Now you, too, can relive the memories of World of Warcraft: Blackwing Lair, the fourth wing of Blackrock Mountain, is now available in Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.

They Really Missed Out On Calling This Total Warhammer

Nothing was sweeter in WoW than taking down Nefarius, aka Blackwing, for the first time. Let us hope that their Hearthstone counterparts provide much of the same joy. They certainly look like they do.

Like WoW, the first boss you encounter is Razorgore and his millions of eggs. Thankfully, you don't have to kite him around the room while everyone else deals with the many, many, many dragonspawn that appear - or the eggs themselves. You do have to worry about those eggs, lest they come back to bite you in your behind. Razorgore's hero ability gives each Corrupted Egg +1 health, and then summons a Corrupted Egg for his troubles. No big deal, until said egg reaches 5 health, at which point it summons a Chromatic Drake, a 7/3 little beastie that has one thing in mind: your destruction.

Navigating this will net you two copies of the Warrior class card, Revenge.

And then there's Vael. Vaelastrasz, to be precise. Once one of the proudest members of the Red Dragonflight, Nefarius twisted and corrupted the poor soul into doing his bidding. While he sadly does not start off at 20% health like his World of Warcraft counterpart, the quick escalation inherent to the original Vael fight is still present. The dragon's hero ability forces each player to draw two cards, a seeming advantage...until you start to burn yourself because you can no longer draw anything. I would stay away from Priests in this one.

Defeating Vael gets you two copies of Flamewalker.

Sadly, the expansion skips over Flamegor and goes straight to Chromaggus, our multi-colored abomination. Said to be the result of crossing Core Hound and dragonkin essences, Chromaggus shimmers with the abilities of all colors of magic. His Hero Ability manifests itself as any one of five cards that will appear in your hand, dealing damage or otherwise hindering your progress.

But, should you succeed you'll bring the heavy bruiser (with a drawback) creature Hungry Dragon.

And finally, you have made it to the top of the spire. Only one thing stands in your way: Victor Nefarius, lord of the lair, who you may know by his nom de plume, Nefarian. At the start of the fight Victor assumes his dragon form, a beefy lizard with 30 health and 30 armor, whose hero ability can 'put a random spell from your opponent's class into Nefarian's hand'.

Oh, he also starts out with 10 mana, so uh...good luck with that.

Don't worry, though, Executus totally comes in and helps by tossing you some Son of the Flame spells, which deal 6 damage to a minion upon summoning.

Upon defeating Blackwing (he has a lot of names), you'll receive the Fireguard Destroyer and, since he's the final boss, you'll also get the Legendary minion, Chromaggus.
