If there's one thing venerable and critically acclaimed actor Charles Dance knows about, it's 'adult' fantasy epics. The actor portrayed Tywin Lannister for four seasons of HBO's Game of Thrones and while he is no longer on the show, he continues to bring his own brand of high-class fantasy menace to CD Projekt RED's Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon Expansion 'Angels Of Death' Available Now
A new behind the scenes video shows off Dance trying to out-gravitas (and out-growl) series star Geralt of Rivia. Dance plays Emhyr var Emreis, the Emperor of Nilfgaard and, obviously, eventual bad guy in the game. The emperor has commanded Geralt to trick down Ciri, a Child of Prophecy and a living weapon that could alter the very shape of the world.
In the video, when asked why he needs the girl, Emhyr responds cryptically, 'I shall give her what she deserves.' A line filled with menace already, but made even more delectable by Dance's performance.
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad Max World In These New Screen Shots
Though the 68 year old actor has lived through the evolution of video games from 2-bit arcade cabinets to the open-world fantasy epics we know today, Wild Hunt marks the first time he has participated in one. He certainly knows how to pick them. Dance seems genuinely impressed with the cinematic quality that modern games possess, noting the difference between then and now by saying, 'What I saw of video games 10 years ago...I mean it's like a whole other world.'
And it's a world we can't wait to explore. Witcher III: Wild Hunt hits next gen consoles and beefy PC rigs on May 19. Watch the video below.
