Samsung Galaxy S3 Specs vs. iPhone 5's iOS 6, an Apple Victory?

Apple's iPhone 5 may be seeing its greatest threat in the new Samsung Galaxy S3.  Tech Specifications on Samsung's next-gen Smartphone are regarded high calibur among the ranks of past Apple iPhones.

With a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, the device comes packed with 4G (a.k.a. LTE and HSPA+) capabilities, offering 16GB or 32GB worth of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD.

S3 features an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera and a 2,100mAh removable battery.  The Smartphone comes flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and TouchWiz UI overlay.

As far as features of the Android heavyweight are concerned, the U.S. version of Galaxy S3 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU with 2GB of internal RAM, instead of 1.4GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor (global version).

The new phone hosts a plethora of software features such as S Voice and S Beam, with the former allowing users to execute commands via their voice and with the latter allowing quick file sharing just by touching the devices.

Specs for the iPhone 5 has been kept under wraps, but according to rumors, Apple's upcoming Smartphone not only packs high end specs but is expected to be running on iOS 6.   Apple's next generation operating system for its mobile devices is rumored to feature a new version of Siri that is currently used on iPad.  Other upgrades also include improvements on the Safari web browser, new turn-by-turn Map navigation, iStore for media content, and faster social networking functions.

Apple looks to compete with its patented software and user experience. Hardware speculations are looking impressive as the iPhone 5 comes with a 1.5 GHz quadcore A6 processor along with 1GB RAM.  A large sell may come in its larger 4-inch touchscreen with retina display with possibilities of handling 1280 x 720 resolutions.  Additional features such as Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and 4G LTE will add on to its appeal.

Apple may flex its muscle with Samsung already claiming that sales of Galaxy S3 could touch 10 million units by the end of July. The S3 is planned to be shipped to 302 wireless carriers in 147 different countries worldwide by the end of next month.

According to the press release of the company, Verizon Wireless' Galaxy S3 will cost $199.99 on contract with 16GB of storage and $249.99 with 32GB of storage. The 16 GB model will be available in stores and online starting July 10 and the 32 GB model will be available online starting July 10 and will be in stores in the coming weeks. The Smartphone will be available in two colors -- marble white or pebble blue.

No official word yet on the iPhone 5's release date.
