Sony PS4 Secretly Began 2 Years Ago in 2010

Sony's next PlayStation, code named Orbis, is in news again. According to Videogamer reports, they came across a LinkedIn CV of ex-SCEA research and development director Attila Vass, which suggested that Sony had been developing the next generation PlayStation since August 2010.

Vass, who had served as director for SCEA from May 1998 to April 2012, reportedly disclosed that he started the work on the "graphics library and security" of the upcoming system nearly two full years ago. And because he has his experience with the Vita listed separately, one has to assume that he is referring to the PS4 by the term "Next Generation PlayStation."

In the CV, Vass mentioned, "I worked on graphics ( COLLADA, PSGL ) and a lot of network related technologies ( advertising, telemetry, PVRs ) for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms. Platform security was occupying most of my time at the last years."

Whatever might be the case, the only question which seems to pop up among  game developers and PS3 fanboys is -- when will the next PlayStation hit the retail shelves?

Earlier reports mentioned that Sony had informed that they wouldn't release a new console until it could show off a "significant leap" in technology.

Sony's CEO Jack Tretton proclaimed that the company will focus on producing the best gaming console in the heated matchups with the Xbox 720 and Wii U.

Responding to the speculation of the launch of its PlayStation 4, Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony has noted that the company is focused on bringing out the best in the industry.

"I think, if you look back at history, we've never been first, we've never been cheapest. It's about being best. And I think if you can build a better machine and it's going to come out a little bit later, that's better than rushing something to market that's going to run out of gas for the long term. I think, ideally, in a perfect world, you want the best machine that ships first, that's the cheapest. But the number one goal is to have the best machine, and that's what we're always focused on," said Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America in an interview with GameTrailers.

During the E3 conference, Sony has focused more on releasing game titles for the PlayStation 3 and had made no mention about its upcoming PlayStation 4 rumored to be called PlayStation Orbis. It is expected to come with central and graphic processing unit with Blu-ray disc optical drive.

Sony is all set to launch new game titles for its PlayStation 3 like God of War: Ascension and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and exclusive AAA content from BEYOND: Two Souls, The Last of Us, LittleBigPlanet Karting and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale in 2013. PS3 will also come with unique PlayStation Network and indie games which includes Sound Shapes, When Vikings Attack, Journey Collection, and The Unfinished Swan.

With the line-up of numerous games for PS 3, the launch of PS4 in the recent times can be ruled out as of now. Sony has also mentioned that its PlayStation 2 is also in demand and they are also working on it.

"Believe it or not, PlayStation 2 still sells well in some parts of the world, so we're still supporting that to a degree. It's the way this company is set up - to handle those sorts of things - so it's not something we're concerned about," said Scott Rohde, Senior Vice President of Sony in an interview with GTTV.
