If ever there was a more fitting movie to get the mobile video game adaptation, Pixels is surely it.
WWE 2K Launches On Mobile Devices Today
The upcoming Adam Sandler film in which aliens invade earth in the guise of 80s video game characters is tailor made for the current round of nostalgia driven content that is permeating the industry. Rather than simply repackage Donkey Kong, Pac Man and Space Invaders, the game - much like the movie - is mashing them all together in one neat, tower defense package.
"With a hilarious cast and an incredible roster of legendary gaming icons to play with, Pixels has all the makings of a breakout hit," said Jeferson Valadares, General Manager and Vice President of Product Development at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. "Pixels is a celebration of some of the most beloved names we grew up with, and we're ecstatic to deliver an experience that's just as enjoyable on mobile devices as it is on the big screen."
The Second Trailer For Everybody's Gone To The Rapture Finally Shows Off Some Rapturing
"With the Pixels mobile game, our goal is to capture the spirit of the movie and provide a new take on the popular tower defense genre of games. We have worked hard to reference some of the great action set pieces from the movie casting players in the role of the movie's heroes, the Arcaders," said Pac Man Producer, Ben Acevedo.
The F2P title will launch ahead of the movie's release on July 24. Pac Man, Q*Bert and many other titles are available on practically every system. Though we must admit, a tower defense title featuring all of them is quite intriguing.
We'll find out this summer.
