'NBA 2K14' Servers Back Online Following Save File Gaffe, Post-Launch Support For Series Permanently Extended

2K Puts NBA 2K14 Servers Back Online, Permanently Extends Post-Launch Support To 27 Months

2K has temporarily rectified its unpopular decision to shut down the NBA 2K14 servers, which unexpectedly put an end to singleplayer MyCareer and MyGM files.

Football Manager Classic Announced For High-End Tablets

The publisher put the servers offline on March 31 (as it announced in February), but claimed that singleplayer modes would be unaffected. This did not turn out to be the case, as the online authentication sign-in on MyCareer and MyGM save files for PS4 and Xbox One made the modes inaccessible.

Game Informer now reports that 2K has turned the servers back on, and announced a change to its online policies moving forward.

PlayStation Now April Games Released

"2K has restored the NBA 2K14 servers and all online services," a representative told GI in an email. "Beginning today, we are extending the support of all NBA 2K servers from 18 to 27 months following each release, giving our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise. The opinions of our community continue to have a positive impact on our business decisions as we strive to create the best possible experience for all of our fans."

The 18 month window was pretty short in and of itself, regardless of the save file issues. A longer lifespan is welcome for paying customers, though it remains to be seen if the same save file shutdown will happen again after the extended period. At least at that point it will be more than two full years after the game's launch, significantly reducing the number of players still using the MyCareer and MyGM modes. Hopefully, the same online sign-in issue is not present in NBA 2K15.
