Activision Shutters Radical Studios Despite Prototype 2's Success

Despite incredible sales and nearly overwhelmingly positive reviews, Prototype 2 developers Radical Studios have been shut down by parent company Activision.

The Canadian developers were best known for Prototype and its sequel, along with the Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction sandbox game. There's no real reason given, as Polygon reports, quoting from a press statement released by Activision:

"Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience," according to an Activision statement. "Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff. As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward."

The news goes further on Radical Entertainment's Twitter linking back to the release on their Facebook page. The company will turn into a shell of itself, with no telling how it'll effect Prototype 2 achievements on Radnet or whether it's even worth to get anymore. We think yes, since the game IS one of the best of 2012, but it's a shame this had to happen to the Radical folks.
