'Yo Kai Watch' US Release: Nintendo Announces North American Version Of Massively Successful Children's 3DS Game

Hey Parents! Introducing Your Kid's New Obsession, 'Yo-kai Watch': You Can Thank Nintendo

If you have not heard of Yo-kai Watch - and let's face it, the chances are good you haven't - prepare to be inundated with information over the next few months as Nintendo begins its PR offensive for what it hopes is its next big thing.

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite Is On Sale For iOS

So what is Yo-kai Watch? It is, in a word: another thing for your kids to obsess over. The game was released in Japan in 2013 and has gone on to sell over 7 million units of the 3DS game, as well as over $1 billion in retail merchandise, toys, clothes, music, you name it, there is probably a Yo-kai Watch version of it.

"It doesn't matter if you're a kid, parent, fan or fan-in-the-making: Everyone will be won over by this charming game." Said Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing Scott Moffitt.

He failed to add: "because your kids will win this war of attrition."

Yo-kai Watch revolves around a boy who finds a peculiar and mysterious watch; in addition to telling time, it also allows him to see Yo-kai. You want to call it a Pokemonesque game, but it's not exactly. Yo Kai are not monsters, spirits or creatures of any kind; they are literally anything. "They cannot be seen by the human eye, but they are everywhere. Whether born from the soul of a deceased human, or an everyday object discovering its higher purpose, their personalities are distinctly humanlike."

So not only will it become your kid's latest in a long line of obsessions, but the chance for them to be going around your house finding Yo-kai in every single piece of furniture you own is guaranteed to occur at some point in the very near future.

No release date has been given as of this time. The Yo-kai should be here in 2015.
