Sony announced back in January that music streaming service Spotify would be coming to its gaming consoles, and the app is arriving today.

Available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 when the online store updates later today, a completely free version of Spotify will be available for all users. Those with existing Spotify Premium subscriptions can link their accounts with the console and make use of all the added benefits as they would on a computer or mobile device. Along with its Xperia mobile devices, Sony says this is an exclusive partnership.
"Spotify is the exclusive partner of PlayStation Music, and with more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, PS4 users can soundtrack their gaming sessions with their favorite songs," the blog post reads. "To make controlling your music even easier PS4 and PS3 users will be able to take advantage of the Spotify Connect feature on the official Spotify app for Android/iOS. You can select a playlist, skip songs, adjust the volume, and more."

That last feature sounds extremely useful--the idea of minimizing your game to control some music is not ideal, but a remote control sitting at your side sounds pretty great. If you don't have a Spotify Premium account or use the service elsewhere, you can of course create one or subscribe via the console for $9.99 per month. Premium removes all ads, turns the mobile version of the app from just shuffle or radio into a full online library, and allows for offline play.
As Sony stated when it announced the app, Music Unlimited subscribers with accounts active as of March 29, 2015, can receive 2 months of free access to Spotify Premium.
