Nintendo continues to present more features in winning gamers from the current Xbox 720 rumors in a growing intensive console war. The latest 3DS XL handheld console device from Nintendo promises a new 3D display screen size along with better battery life for longer play time.
"The 3DS XL will boast a new 4.88 inch stereoscopic 3D display screen, an increase from the 3.53 inch screen in the current Nintendo 3DS model. The system's secondary display, the touchscreen, will also see a size increase from 3 inches to 4.18 inches," said Nintendo of America reps in an interview with Polygon.
The 3DS XL expects to have all around improvements compared to its Nintendo 3DS predecessor. It will be able to play 3DS and DS titles. The latest device will hit stores on August 19th with a $199.99 price tag.
Nintendo will also challenge the Xbox 720 in both specs and gameplay. Based on the available information, the Wii U looks to have an IBM multi core processor along with an AMD Radeon High Def GPU. The networking capabilities accesses wireless IEEE 802.11 b/g/n connection. Though no specific details are available, comparisons have claimed that the Xbox 720 will have complete advantage over the Wii U in terms of hardware specs. Nintendo's response has been that their gameplay can downplay hardware comparisons.
The Wii U's latest attempt to counter Xbox in this area comes in its latest title "Super Smash Bros." The combination of simple, yet engaging gameplay combined with favorite characters from the Nintendo universe has made the brawling game a staple in the franchise.
"It's my personal belief that the only time a creative product really resonates is in that first moment when it's actually in front of you," Sakurai said at Nintendo Direct. "With that said, I've realized that if we keep the new Super Smash Bros. title's development structure secret, it'll only create more and more speculation, and I won't be able to develop the game with any freedom. That's why I've decided to announce this news right now, even though it's still very early on."
Teaming up with Namco Bandai, Nintendo will look to continue satisfying its Super Smash Bros. fanbase. The new title will look to attract potential Xbox gamers, though Xbox fans have been quite excited about the recent leaked specs for the Xbox 720.
A 56 page document, which has now been removed from document sharing website Scribd.com, outlined the next-gen specs for the Xbox 720. It is rumored that the console is six times better than the Xbox 360 in terms of performance, visual display and 3D support. Microsoft's next-gen console boasts a 1080p output display, Blu-ray, native 3D output and glasses, concurrent apps, and additional sensor and peripheral support. The new Wi-Fi augmented reality glasses called Fortaleza, have 4G network capabilities and games can be delivered via the Cloud "instantly and on any screen."
"Microsoft appears to have been debating whether to use six or eight ARM or x86 cores clocked at 2GHz each with 4GB of DDR4 memory alongside three PPC cores clocked at 3.2GHz each for backwards compatibility with existing Xbox 360 titles," said The Verge.
Despite the speculations that the leaked document contained genuine specs for the Xbox 720, Microsoft's statement made no official announcement that they were true.
"We understand there is great interest and anticipation for what comes next for Xbox and we are lucky to have customers who are so passionate about the platform. Today, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360 console. We have found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and we've re-invented the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are continually thinking about the future of the platform and when we have something to share, we will," said Microsoft.
The leaked document suggested that the Xbox 720 will be released in 2013.
