Motorola Droid Razr and Maxx Android 4.0 ICS Upgrade Begins Today

Good news is here for Motorola Droid Razr users! The long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade has finally arrived for Motorola’s Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx. Starting today, users will receive the ICS upgrade by over-the-air or user initiated.

ICS is the latest mobile operating system from Google’s Android. ICS has been very popular among latest Android-based smartphones for its fancy functionalities.

Along with the ICS upgrade, Motorola’s flagship smartphones, Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx will also have Global Roaming capability.

“They’re the first 4G LTE smartphones on the Verizon Wireless network that will be able to support voice and data service in more than 220 countries when you’re subscribed to an international plan,” stated Motorola on its website.

Users will receive a notification that an update is available, asking them to either download now or later. After downloading the update, users can tap “Install Now” button to install the ICS. Since the new version operating system is typically large, it may take some time to download it and therefore, a good Wi-Fi connection and a well-charged battery are suggested.

The upgrade comes in phases as there are a large number of users out there. It may take several days for all users in batches to receive the upgrade. So be patient if you didn’t receive the notification yet.

If you want to upgrade right now, you can try by user initiated upgrade. From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.

Motorola also announced on its website that the ICS upgrade times for Droid 4, Droid Bionic, and Droid Xyboard will be the third quarter of this year.
