The trailer for Dredd, starring Karl Urban and Oliva Thirlby, reminds us that only one month ago did The Raid come out in theaters. The premise of the latter involved an elite SWAT team being led under questionable circumstances into an entire apartment building run by and populated by sadistic gangsters. Everything goes wrong and three of the police have to fight their way out of the building and arrest the guy they came for.
The plot for Dredd is exactly the same, except for three big differences. Karl Urban, Oliva Thirlby and That Third Guy are called Judges, which are the police force of the future and popularized in the British comic series "A.D. 2000." There's going to be a ton of slow-motion sequences because there's a drug, also called "Slo-Mo," that makes everything appear slower to whoever takes it. And it's in 3D.
The Raid just had a lot of amazing action sequences, incredible stunts and a frenetic pace that didn't let up for nearly 90 minutes. We will only be so lucky if Dredd does the same when we'll secretly be replaying Sylvester Stallone's line from the original Judge Dredd: "I AHM THE LAHR."
