Whoever wanted to let sleeping dogs like never met a Metal Gear Solid fan. After all, Hideo Kojima spoke with "IG" Magazine for their July issue and revealed that not only is Metal Gear Solid 5 in development, it'll definitely be running on the Fox Engine. Maybe this is what Kojima was hinting at when he claimed Project Ogre would be the next public demonstration of Konami's in-house next generation graphics engine.
The rest of the reveal comes through a game of Internet telephone, as Eurogamer and CVG pick and piece together the translation. Kojima wanted to be done with Snake after ending his story in Guns of the Patriots, but figures that he'll have to bring him back in some way for the fifth game in the main franchise.
The process started in 2008 when Kojima dropped ideas to his staff--the detailed example being the Cobra Unit from Snake Eater on the shores of Normandy--and left to work on Project Ogre. Only instead, Kojima got sucked back in like he always has been when it comes to Solid Snake. This was also the time that inspired Kojima to spin-off the franchise into Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which was to take it intentionally away from the "Tactical Espionage Action" that molds the Solid franchise. His goal for Metal Gear Solid 5 is to head back to a stealth option, but one that includes "favors," modeled upon the format in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
So instead of having to choke out and hold up soldiers for dog tags and rations, now we'll just have to do side quests or keep reminding ourselves that we didn't ask for this? Works for us.
There're no release dates or projected dates, but Kojima did drop that the fifth installment would definitely be for "higher end" consoles since the Fox Engine would overpower current generation consoles.
