Dev studio Compulsion Games has debuted a stunning new, eerily creepy trailer for their upcoming title We Happy Few.

Everything is not fine in the town of Wellington Wells, a seemingly picture perfect 1960s retro-futuristic English town where everyone is happy and smiling, all the time. God help you if you aren't. In what feels like a cross between an old Twilight Zone episode and John Carpenter's They Live, We Happy Few is "the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial."
Think Pleasantville, but with more beheadings by shovel.

The art style is decidedly mod (as befitting), bright and cheerful. And yet, there is something hollow about sunshine with no darkness, is there? Being forced to be happy is no happiness to me. So the painted faces on all these people, going about their lives is as unnerving as any horror film. Things just aren't supposed to be that way.
Much like Bioshock, We Happy Few looks to turn the eye of society inward and will hopefully deliver an engaging story alongside some fun gameplay. All of that is speculation, this is just the announcement trailer. But if the point of such a thing is to get our attention, they have succeeded.
Admittedly, I am a sucker for anything related to Henry V, so they had me at the name.
Compulsion will be showing off We Happy Few at PAX East next weekend in Boston. Swing booth #6216 to meet the team and also get a chance to join the alpha. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments.
