In the higher Town Hall levels in Clash of Clans, Dark Elixir is probably the most important resource in the entire game. The majority of your heavy hitters - your P.E.K.K.A, your Golems and especially, your King and Queen, all feast on the purplish ooze.

And it does not come cheap, so let's go over a few ways to maximize your Dark Elixir gathering potential. Remember, like America during the early to mid-2000s, you're gonna have to invade another country for this. In fact, you're gonna have to invade a whole lot of other countries to secure that sweet, sweet ichor.
Galadon of Clash of Clans Attacks is here to help you through the incredibly long and slow process of getting your troops and buildings up to max level.

First, it's important to preserve the Elixir. We are not going for trophies, so don't spend it when you don't need to. When farming, losing your rank is okay, because you can win it back in the end. So, don't use Dark Elixir troops to farm Dark Elixir. Go BaRCH! It's amazing what you can accomplish simply by Zerging the enemy base.
When doing so, however, do not surround the base as you normally would - remember, trophies are not the goal (but if you get one, that's cool, too) - your objective is the Dark Elixir storage and the Dark Elixir Drill.
There is an exception: if you have you a Hero unit, either Barbarian King or Archer Queen, use them, use them, use them. They cost Dark Elixir to create initially - an astounding amount of Dark Elixir - but once you have them, you have them, and all you have to do is wait for them to heal up afterwards. They can be the difference maker.
But sometimes, you have to spend money to make money. Or, if you want to win the lottery, you have to make enough money to buy a ticket. Just be careful when employing DE troops like Minions. The benefit has to be worth the cost, a few hundred (certainly no more than 400 DE) for about 1000 net is worth it. Just be sure to pick your battles correctly.
Nor should you mind spending gold and regular elixir. That stuff starts flowing like booze at Mardi Gras at higher level, so BaRCH, BaRCH, BaRCH. Toss in a few wall-breakers to get you over the hump.
Lastly, be smart. If there's a Dragon hanging about, take care of that first. A Clan Castle dragon can utterly ruin any attack, especially ground troops.
Remember, a level 40 Barbarian King costs 190,000 Dark Elixir, and the Archer Queen costs 200,000. This is not a sprint, this is a marathon. You are going to be at this a long time, clawing, grinding at 1000 DE a pop if you are lucky. Above all, patience.
