Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge Slices Through e3

The Wii U gets a port of the third Ninja Gaiden that's already gone through two versions on the Xbox and PlayStation.

"People are excited for this gory, ultraviolent action game on a Nintendo console," said Yosuke Hayashi, head of Team Ninja. And based on Nintendo norms, Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge is incredibly violent and heavy of the antagonist dismemberment. It was an original Wii U launch title last year, hence why there's not a lot different style wise from the original release of Ninja Gaiden 3.

The third installment of the modernized Gaiden follows Ryu Hayabusa as he struggles to keep control of the demonic sword Muramasa and takes on an evil group of alchemists (not joking) instead of the Fiends from the previous installments. Another edition are mini-quicktime events prompting Ryu to slice through an enemy. The decapitations and amputations of enemies were missing from the Xbox and PS3, but Siliconera noted in their hands-on "was how bloody Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge was. Players can chop off limbs and enemy soldiers will crawl on the ground after losing their legs."

Which is great to hear that when Nintendo wants to do bloody, they get it exclusively.

Gaiden's Wii U intergration comes with swapping hot buttons on the Wii U controller to execute Ninpo faster, along with unlocking moves for Ryu on the tablet screen, rather than in the center of combat like in the other consoles. Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge will be released "around" the same time of the Wii U's own launch date later in 2012, which is a projected holiday release.

So this holiday season, give your little loved ones the joy of Super Mario, Batman and a bloodthirsty ninja controlled by his demonic sword.
