The web-shooting acrobatics of Spider-Man may just live up to the first part of his title: amazing.
Featuring the first hands-on at e3 this year, Game Trailers previewed a few minutes of in-game footage with Dee Brown, Beenox studio head. The play mechanics of Amazing were "the next evolution" for the Beenox team after originally working on Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
Polygon thinks so and are impressed overall with the handling of the story, set after the events of the film, and controls:
"Beenox didn't stop with nailing the core experience. This is a far more complete game than Edge of Time or Shattered Dimensions, featuring loads of collectibles (including full, readable comic books) and an skill upgrade system. Though it doesn't include the voices of the film's performers, it does feature Spidey co-creator Stan Lee as a playable character. Heck, Bruce Campbell even returns as the voice of an extreme sports reporter that critiques Ol' Web Head's performance."
The only almost-negative critique comes from one of the legions of Examiners:
"And the camera that worked so well for web-slinging? It doesn't work for on-the-ground activities. When you're not swinging around, it's too tight, and the player ends up getting hit from off screen. It's also too sensitive at times, or not sensitive enough."
We'll find out soon enough when the game is released on June 26th, followed by the movie on June 28th in Europe and July 3rd in the U.S.
