Watch Dogs Confirmed for a 360, PC and PlayStation release

Watch Dogs, the breakout star of e3, fell a bit when Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed a release for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The minor fall for the buzz title comes from expectations that the crisp images were the result of a next generation console, but the demo was being played off a high performance PC Guillemot said on the Game Trailers e3 Live feed last night.

It's great to hear we'll get Watch Dogs for PC, Xbox and Playstation but it's just another reminder that this e3 was supposed to hint at the next generation in console gaming and all that's shown up is a modified Nintendo Wii with a tablet. That a PC was used during Ubisoft's press conference that mainly focused on established console titls like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Assassin's Creed without clarification felt like a cheap shot from a Canadian--totally unexpected and with a lame apology.

When asked if Dogs had a possibility of next gen release, Guillemot trailed off with a "we'll see" when listing release consoles. It'll also implement the Smart Glass app touted by Xbox according to CVG. The weird question is why the Smart Glass intergration for Watch Dogs features a map of New York City when the demo took place in Chicago at the Dox Connexion. Maybe we're off to the Big Apple in the final game? Or more than one city runs on the ctOS format that allows you to hack and control trains, lights and cell phones.

So, that confirms Watch Dogs as a Smart Glass implemented game that has an unknown release date. Let's just assume it'll be before the end of the year so we have an excuse to swap in something aside from Assassin's Creed III.
