DmC: Devil May Cry gameplay looks a lot like Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Theory's development plan may be, "if it ain't broke, slash it again."

Because the first demo footage featured at e3 for our alternate Dante looks so much like Ninja Gaiden it hurts. And not in the usual "tear apart demons" way. From the start, the design has clearly changed from Capcom's own over-the-top combo counter into a format that parallels the blunt design choice of Max Payne 3 stating combos and letter-based multiplyers.

It also hints at the different "Angel" and "Demon" weapons that the press release mentioned, highlighting them between the whip and scythe that are seamlessly interchangable during combat with the right trigger, based on the Xbox demo. The changing states themselves aren't profiled in the footage from the Game Trailers play-through. The shifting walls and troll-like nature of Limbo City are interesting, such as the shifting skull wall that pops up if you keep running towards it.

The action's clearly Devil May Cry, though, but with the quick change between weapons that Ninja Gaiden desperately wanted.
