Planetside 2 Community Sets Record For Biggest Online FPS Battle With Over 1,000 Active Players

Planetside 2 players set out to break a record for the most active online players this weekend, and it seems that they succeeded.

Guild Wars 2's First Expansion Has Been Announced, Details Here

The actual record is for most players online in a first person shooter at once, and the previous Guiness-confirmed record was 999 for Man vs Machine. The Planetside 2 community claims to have hit 1,158 concurrent players, though Guiness has yet to give final word on the record.

Players in the Reddit threat linked above mention extreme amounts of lag, which is to be expected with so many users playing at once. The game itself is normally based on large-scale, many-player matches, but this of course took things to another level. The Twitch video below shows off the post-game and comments on what exactly unfolded, which is pretty ridiculous in hindsight. The kill totals are in the dozens of thousands, even if lag was making things complicated.
