Square Enix has announced the start of the Nosgoth open beta for next week.
The Princess Bride Game Is A Fun Time? Inconceivable! Our Review
The free-to-play team-based PvP gothic horror actioner has been in a private closed beta for some time now, but soon the masses may join this masquerade next Wednesday, January 21 at 1 p.m. Eastern. Just head over to the page and sign up for access.
Nosgoth is an asymmetrical multiplayer actioner (man, we love that term 'asymmetrical' nowadays) that puts you in the middle of a desperate war between vampires and humans. The game, in fact, is set in the same universe as the beloved Legacy of Kain series and represents the first entry into the franchise in over ten years, having originally been conceived as a single player title.

The title is a blend of the action and squadbased gameplay of Team Fortress 2 and the proliferation of MOBA titles. But don't call it a MOBA. The third-person camera perspective gives it a very real, very action/horror game feel.
The first week of the beta will feature double XP for everybody! Additionally, the team from Psyonix will be on Twitch "giving you an exclusive look at some exciting upcoming updates, take questions in the chat, and generally celebrate the launch." Look for that next Friday, January 23 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern (or just come here afterwards, we'll give you the updates).
"Thanks to our highly dedicated and very passionate community, we've had an amazing journey so far," said Corey Davis, Game Director. "Our goal for the Open Beta is to deliver a fun and engrossing metagame and we realize that working closely with our community is the best way for us to balance and deepen the experience going forward. We are thrilled to see what the future brings!"
Look, the game is a sequel to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. That alone should get you to at least check it out. You will lose literally nothing except time. Head over to the Nosgoth Steam page next week to sign up.
Check out what lies in the darkness ahead below, and stay tuned for a brand new trailer next week.
