Who will be the next big bad for the upcoming half season of The Walking Dead? It's a question on everyone's lips, as Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has been rumored to be taking more of a villain role. Outside of that idea, it's been either the Whisperers (a group of survivors who disguise themselves with roamer skin) or Negan, an antgonist from the comic book. Hints in the promo art may point to the latter.
The Walking Dead Could See A New Glen If He Loses Maggie
An eagle eyed fan spotted smokestacks in the distance of the poster which is a strong sign that we'll be seeing Negan in the near future. Undead Walking pointed out the smokestacks in the picture and compared them to the ones found on Negan's home in the comic. Though not exact, it's a pretty strong argument that we will see the villain soon.
"I wouldn't expect Negan too terribly soon, although he is definitely in the plan. It's a 99 percent lock that he's going to be in the show eventually, so be on the lookout for that," Robert Kirkman said in an interview with MTV News way back in April.
New Trailer For The Walking Dead Reveals Commitment To The Group
Could enough time have passed to make his introduction?
The case for the Whisperers over Negan is still pretty solid however. The inclusion of the face wearing villains would tie in nicely with the hinted at return of Morgan. It would also give us a break from megalomaniac mad men after the Governor.
Both villains are sure to keep the group on their toes as they face off against them, although we won't know for certain until the new season airs, it seems.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC February.
