New promo art has been released for The Walking Dead. In a story that's always pretty bleak, the art seems to point for some darker times ahead for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang. After the events of "Coda" the mid-season finale, this should come as no surprise.
The Walking Dead Will See A Darker Season And Possibly The Return Of A Character
The shot is of Rick standing with a gun looking back. In the foreground is the map with the message "The New World's Gonna Need Rick Grimes."
Considering the changes that Rick has gone through and the changes that he is rumored to go through, this does not bode well for the new world. We've already discussed that Rick will be seeing darker times ahead.
The Walking Dead Meets VR With New Content On Milk VR
Showrunner Scott Gimple confirmed in an interview with Variety that Rick and the team would be headed into some rough times in the coming eight episodes. He also poses the question, "Have they been so hardened that they won't be able to recognize opportunities in front of them?"
This could be a hint at some form of safety or opportunity yet to come for the team. We've speculated that they're headed to the Alexandria Safe Zone in the coming episodes. But what else is there for them?
Will there be chances for them to find some other sort of safety or even redemption? It's interesting to note that even though it's a dark picture, there is light filtering down on them which indicates, from an art standpoint, that there may be hope yet.
The Walking Dead will return on Feburary 8.
