Let's not bury the lede here: you can now use your flashlight and gun at the same time in Doom 3.
The 2004 game is getting an HD facelift from id software and new owner Bethesda Softworks according to an exclusive from Polygon. Among being driven out to Doom co-creator John Carmack's testing space for rocket engines(!), Polygon reveals that Doom: BFG Edition will feature "will be the final say in Doom content to date. The package will include Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and a brand-new, 'lost' mission for Doom 3 with seven new levels, a new boss and two-to-three hours of content."
