Archer is finally coming back after what felt like the longest wait ever. Finally we'll have the motley crew of spies and their various HR staff (actually, is there anyone who wasn't promoted to secret agent status left?) back to wreak havoc on the world of espionage. But it could have all been drastically different in the new season.
Archer To Return Under A Different Name
We know that the entire last season for the most part has been retconned. Although we're keeping Lana's baby, Charlene/Cheryl's music career and Pam's drastic weight loss are all gone. Like the cocaine that fueled it. Everyone is back to their old antics.
The show that we almost got though was going to be set in a prison. Entertainment Weekly shared the idea after an interview with Adam Reed, creator/writer of the show.
Orange Is The New Black Will Get A New Inmate To Cause Trouble On New Season
Reed said on why the show didn't go in that direction, "We sat down and talked about it and were laughing about it, and instantly story ideas were spilling out. Then some wet blanket said, 'Well, you know, it's going to seem like we're ripping off Orange Is the New Black.' It just sucked all the air out of the room."
Which is the shame because the Archer crew doing a parody of Orange is the New Black would be a brilliant thing of beauty. The world was robbed of something special that day.
Still, we're sure to get a crazy season filled with all the stunts we know and love. Archer returns to FX on January 8 at 10 PM. Watch the trailer below.
