After opening last week in limited release across North America, "Indie Game: The Movie" inked a more international release with online gaming giant Steam.
Starting June 12th, the Sundance Documentary Award winner will retail for $8.99 on the popular PC/Mac gaming site, when it'll also be avaliable on iTunes. There still aren't set dates for the DVD and Blu-Ray, which can be pre-ordered at their site and offer bonuses for both the normal and special editions.
This marks the first time that Steam has sold a digital release that isn't just a game or downloadable content. It's embarking on new territory with other pay video-on-demand (PVOD) sites like iTunes, Amazon and Vudu for content exclusivity. Depending on how the experiment works, Steam could become a major competitor when it comes to getting film and TV content. But that's still a while from fleshing itself out.
