When you talk about DC heroes, there's a staple group that come up constantly. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, basically everyone that showed up in the Justice League cartoons. There's one more super guy that is beloved by fans that will turn up in a new movie: Shazam.
Justice League Will Exist In Shared DC Movie-Verse
Shazam premiered way back in 1939. He's also known as Captain Marvel but I assume that they don't so much use that name anymore because, you know, Marvel Comics. He is the alter ego of Billy Batson, who is a child. When the boy speaks the magic word "Shazam!" he transforms into an adult magical superhero. Sort of like Superman but instead of laser eyes he gets control over magic lightning so, even trade off?
/Film reports that New Line president Toby Emmerich statied that Shazam would "have a tone unto itself" which is good, considering how close the character is to Superman, to make sure it can stand on its own. As mentioned before, having these movies come out separately rather than one Justice League mega movie is a great idea, as it will allow for a lot of backstory and character development.
Dark Horse Bids Farewell to Star Wars Comics with Huge Sale
Which honestly, a character like Shazam needs. Shazam is a super old school character that has gone through many drastic changes. The most recent of which happened in the New 52 universe. A movie would need to time to explain his mostly magical origins and how exactly how that works out in the new DC Movie-verse.
You'll have to wait to see Shazam on the big screen though, as it's not set for release until 2019. I hope he fights Superman.
